FAIRFAX, Marin County — October 31, 2026. Marin County Parks has confirmed completion of the upper Cascade Canyon trail bridge, a new crossing intended to improve access while protecting sensitive creek habitat near Fairfax and Camp Tamarancho.
What is finished?
The county’s official Cascade Trail Bridges project page posted an October 12, 2026 construction-complete update for the upper bridge (Bridge 2) and adjacent improvements. That is a confirmed completed construction phase, not merely a proposal.
What is still ahead?
Work on the lower bridge (Bridge 1) is planned for August–October 2027. The county projects the full two-bridge initiative to wrap up by October 2027. Residents should not interpret the completion of the upper bridge as meaning both crossings are available today.
Why were new bridges needed?
The old route required visitors to negotiate low-water rock ford crossings of San Anselmo Creek. Those crossings can become hazardous when water rises and can disturb sediment and aquatic habitat. County plans also include realigned trails, signs, fencing, speed-control measures for bicycles and restoration of redundant routes.
The creek supports sensitive species including steelhead and other native wildlife. Visitors should stay on designated trails, respect restoration barriers and avoid entering the creek simply because a former crossing looks passable.
Before hiking or riding
Check the Marin County Parks project page and official preserve notices for actual access and trail closures. New construction may be complete in one location while related habitat work or the 2027 phase remains restricted.
