FAIRFAX, Marin County — October 31, 2026. A significant sewer infrastructure project affecting downtown Fairfax and neighboring residential roads is designed to increase wet-weather capacity and replace aging lines before future storm seasons.

Where is the work planned?

The official state project filing for Ross Valley Sanitary District’s Fairfax Capacity and Creek Crossings Project (#957) names Broadway, Merwin Avenue, Park Road, Spruce Road, Hawthorne Court, Merwin Road, Oak Manor Drive, Westbrae Drive and Olema Drive as locations within or near the project area.

How will the system change?

The filing describes rehabilitation of roughly 3,300 linear feet of existing six-inch sewer mains, upsizing approximately 400 feet of 15-inch pipe to 18 inches, and installing approximately 2,000 feet of new 18-inch relief sewer. Four creek crossings are involved, with trenchless techniques planned at some locations to reduce excavation within creek channels.

What is the timing?

The published construction estimate ran from June through November 2026, with typical working hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is the environmental document’s projected schedule and does not independently prove that every street segment has been completed or is currently closed.

What should residents do?

Property owners along the affected roads should check current Ross Valley Sanitary District notices for lateral connections, driveway access, work-zone restrictions and revised schedules. A general project filing cannot tell a resident whether crews will be outside a particular house on a particular date. Project contact listed in the state filing: 415-259-2949 extension 212.
