FAIRFAX, Marin County — October 31, 2026. Fairfax Library is one of ten Marin County Free Library branches included in a $3.4 million renovation and refresh initiative that the county celebrated as completed on October 29, 2026.
What was the project?
Marin County’s announcement says the project began in September 2025 and concluded in September 2026, with a ribbon-cutting celebration at Marin Civic Center on October 29. In addition to Fairfax, the project covered Inverness, Stinson Beach, Point Reyes Station, Marin City, Bolinas, South Novato, Civic Center, Novato and Corte Madera.
The county describes improved furniture, interiors and accessibility across the system, along with its broader mission to make spaces welcoming and functional. It does not provide a separate $3.4 million budget for Fairfax alone: that amount applies to the entire ten-branch initiative.
Who paid for the work?
The program was financed through revenue from Measure B approved by Marin County voters in 2022. The county’s Public Works Department managed the work, with architectural design by Noll & Tam Architects.
What is useful to local readers?
A public library serves as a neighborhood place for reading, online resources and community programming. The refresh is not proof that every branch has the same hours or offers identical events. For present Fairfax Library opening hours, holds, classes and accessibility features, consult Marin County Free Library before visiting.
